Another beginning…

Tomorrow it will literally have been 2 years since my last post.  So much wasted time.  Weight has been up and down.  In that time, I’ve lost about 40 pounds and have gained most of it back.  I’ve been pretty miserable and feeling like utter shit the last six months or so.  Letting life pass me by.  Anyway, not posting to throw myself a pity party.  It’s time to take full responsibility for my life and happiness.   I’ll likely make brief postings, nothing too grandiose.  The time for talking/typing has long ago passed.  Its time to let my actions speak for themselves. I took my first step in moving my fat ass today by jumping on my recumbent bike.  Total exercise time: 5 minutes 11 seconds for .7 miles.  Ha!  Don’t laugh.  Gotta start somewhere. Later.

Pulled the trigger.

I went to my local bike shop (LBS) and picked up my shiny new Trek 3700 Disc, a bike rack for the car, and a tire pump.  Total damage was just shy of $600.  Drove home and took a spin around the block.  I’m looking forward to putting some miles on my new bike.  My blog posts are unbelievably boring.

Getting my ducks in a row.

I ordered a knee brace yesterday because  I hurt my knee on Christmas day last year and it’s still a bit sore/weak.  I feel goofy about this, but I also ordered one of those exercise balls to use as a chair since I spend so much time sitting for work.  Studies have shown it burns about 6% more calories than sitting in a regular office chair.  Hey, every burned calorie counts.

OK, what exactly is happening here?

Let me get all the details out of the way.  I’m a very very fat guy in his mid 30’s.  433 lbs on a 6′ frame to be exact.  Down from about 455.  I’ve  been a big, fat, sloppy, unhealthy sack of sadness for a long time now.  I was also a smoker for close to 18 years.  I stopped 26 days ago.  My plan is to buy a mountain bike in the next few days and begin the long journey of getting my life back.  So, what does SuperPachyderm have to do with any of this?  During my research into mountain biking, I found a charming term for bigger bikers.  They were called Clydesdales, a rider who was over 6′ and/or 200 lbs.  I then saw there was a category of SuperClydesdales who were guys over 220 lbs or so.  I just couldn’t call myself a Clydesdale in good conscience, I was too big, I needed another term.  I saw a site mention that the really big riders were Pachyderms, but I still doubt they were talking about guys that were approaching a quarter ton.  So, I have dubbed myself a SuperPachyderm.  And here we are.

Well, well……here we are.

Who would have thunk it?  Anyone who knows me at all, knows that I am a supremely private person.  And yet here I am, joining the ranks of the rest of the self absorbed assholes on the interwebs with a blog.  I doubt that anyone will ever read these bits and bytes, instead this blog will serve as a personal diary of sorts.  A way for me to track my progress and document the process.  I imagine I’ll be posting like a crazy person initially.  Bear with me.
